Our Story
Hot Island Sauna was first conceived in 2024 by husband and wife, Riley and Kassidy.
Hot Island Sauna was first conceived in 2024 by husband and wife, Riley and Kassidy. Having met working together at a fabrication shop in Brooklyn, NY, the couple was ready to bring their building experience and creativity to a new endeavor on Madeline Island. Riley, a Minnesota native; and Kassidy, who hails from the shorelines of southern California–both have a deep love and respect for the natural world, but Kassidy wasn't totally prepared for the long and harsh Wisconsin winters. The idea of having a sauna to endure those winters was a seed that rooted and grew into this business. The business has saunas that are available to rent or purchase and each of Hot Island Saunas are handmade and built on Madeline Island, often with locally sourced materials.
Each of their saunas are a reflection of their creation process: they are organic, experimental, and keep passion for nature and care for community at the center. The two believe that the sauna (which has history in many several cultures throughout the world) is a sacred place for healing, rest, reflection, and communal gathering. Each sauna is unique and has its own story to tell for the people and the places it belongs to. Riley and Kassidy are grateful to bring sauna into their community all year round and look forward to connecting with you — on or off the sauna bench.
